My Experience With Legal Representation I am sharing this statement because I believe people should be able to make informed decisions when choosing legal representation, particularly when a family member is in custody and the family is under considerable pressure. In 2016, I was arrested and subsequently detained in the United Kingdom. During this extremely difficult period, my family sought legal assistance on my behalf. My uncle paid approximately £19,000 in relation to my legal representation, including payments connected with Mr Yasin Patel and JJ Solicitors/JJ Chambers, as well as the involvement of a barrister. My family made these payments expecting that appropriate legal services would be provided and that communication and arrangements concerning my case and my situation in custody would be handled properly. After the payments were made, my family repeatedly sought information about when I would be visited and what steps were being taken on my behalf. We were given assurances that visits and legal work would take place. However, based on my family's experience, the expected visit arrangements were not properly organised, and we were left chasing for information and explanations. This situation caused significant stress and financial hardship for my family at a time when we were already dealing with the extremely difficult circumstances of my imprisonment. I have retained evidence relating to the payments, correspondence and communications surrounding the matter. I believe there are serious questions about the services that were promised, the payments that were made, and the responsibility of the individuals and organisations involved. I am therefore sharing my experience so that anyone considering legal representation can carry out their own due diligence, obtain clear written agreements about fees and services, keep records of every payment and communication, and make sure they understand exactly who is responsible for their case. This statement reflects my personal experience and my understanding of events. I am making a determination of criminal or professional misconduct; where I have concerns, I believe those matters should be properly investigated by the relevant professional or legal authorities. I believe transparency and accountability are important, particularly when families are paying substantial amounts of money during extremely stressful circumstances.
