ALL motorists are now aware of the change to the parking law and causing an obstruction on the pavement, which can in some instances affect those who are partially sighted along with those with pushchairs! Firstly, with this in mind, can someone from the council please explain why, refuge bins must be placed on the pavement prior to collection? Surely, these bins also create obstacles for those who are partially sighted and those with pushchairs along with all the uneven surfaces and potholes on the pavements, which they appear to ignore ! Secondly, it would appear, there are more exceptions to the pavement parking within Giffnock and Newton Mearns, could this possibly be the areas where these councillors reside ? If motorists must abide by the law on pavement obstruction, then that same law MUST apply to the councils, who require refuge bins to be placed on the the pavement prior to collection, or is this another case of ‘Double Standards’ I’m intrigued how any vehicles will be able to pass in some of these narrow residential roads, which were designed in the 50s and 60s when cars were less prevalent on our roads ! Perhaps it’s time for the motorists who are obviously prime scapegoats for carbon footprints, higher taxes at the pump and numerous restrictions, to FIGHT BACK ! After all if we’re talking about pavement obstruction, then the footpaths should be ‘fit for purpose’ and free from ALL obstacles including wheelie bins , uneven surfaces and potholes, all of which should also apply to the roads which are in a shocking condition and cost the motorist additional charges for repairs to their vehicles !
